What is ScopeSim™?

ScopeSim is a table top simulator which allows users at any level to practice and improve their steering skills for a wide range of optical investigation devices such as endoscopes, colonoscopes, bronchoscopes and cystoscopes.

Benefits of Simulation

Current devices in the marketplace are very high tech, very expensive and some lack haptic feedback. Low tech devices exist but are of limited use as they do not attempt to simulate anatomical structures and tend to be of a fixed degree of difficulty , similarly there are no metrics for assessing one's skill improvement with practice.

This solution provides haptic feedback, can change the degree of difficulty by changing the maze, and assesses the speed of navigation for measurement and self improvement.

Fibre optic scopes are used in a variety of disciplines such as anaesthetics, ITU, respiratory medicine, surgery, urology, etc. The is an increased requirement for simulation in the three main areas of Medico-legal, Training and Education, Assessment & Re-validation.

Academic studies have been undertaken indicating radical improvement for any level of expertise by periodic practice using this training device.

Evaluation

Scopesim can operate as a standalone unit or act as a recording assessment tool by interfacing to Tablets or PCs. The design provides graded difficulties by using different 'mazes' through which the user has to navigate and their performance can be monitored and recorded via Bluetooth links to tablets or PCs
